The gurdwara is also notable for its location near the border between Pakistan and India. The shrine is visible from the Indian side of the border. Indian Sikhs gather in large numbers on bluffs to perform darshan, or sacred viewing of the site, from the Indian side of the border. The Corridor was opened by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on 9 November 2019, the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and just days before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
This historic moment officially allowed Indian Sikh pilgrims rare visa-free access to the site in Pakistan. It is also claimed to be the largest gurdwara in the world. The Shrine is located at Kartarpur, a small town beside the River Ravi in Punjab and it is one of the holiest places for up to 30 million Sikhs around the world. The main shrine building was built in 1925 at a cost of Rs. 1,35,600, donated by Sardar Bhupindar Singh, the Maharaja of Patiala. It was repaired by the Government of Pakistan in 1995, and fully restored in 2004, at a significant cost. In May 2017, the US-based NGO "EcoSikh" proposed establishment of a 100-acre "sacred forest" around the shrine. The Gurdwara was further expanded in November 2018 with the construction of a new courtyard, museum, library, dormitories and locker rooms spread across an area of 42 acres (17 hectares). There is a 20-foot well, made of small red bricks which is 500 years old and believed to have been built during the lifetime of Guru Nanak Dev.Anyone can visit this place provided they are respect and follow the code of conduct.
Religious festivals- Baisakhi Mela, Vaisakhi and Khalsa commemorations. Food is prepared in communal kitchen and served in Langar hall, which is made by the pilgrims themselves.

گوردوارہ پاکستان اور ہندوستان کی سرحد کے قریب واقع ہونے کی وجہ سے سے مشہور ہے ۔ یہ مزار سرحد کے ہندوستانی حصے سے نظر آتا ہے۔ہندوستانی سکھ بڑی تعداد میں بلف پر جمع ہوتے ہیں تاکہ سرحد کے ہندوستانی حصے سے درشن کریں یا اس جگہ کا مقدس نظارہ کریں۔ راہداری کو پاکستانی وزیر اعظم عمران خان نے 9 نومبر 2019 کو دیوار برلن کے گرنے کی سالگرہ اور گرو نانک کے 550 ویں یوم پیدائش سے چند دن پہلے کھولا تھا۔ اس تاریخی لمحے نے باضابطہ طور پر ہندوستانی سکھ یاتریوں کو پاکستان میں اس جگہ تک نایاب ویزا فری رسائی کی اجازت دی۔ یہ دنیا کا سب سے بڑا گردوارہ ہونے کا دعویٰ بھی کیا جاتا ہے۔ مزار پنجاب میں دریائے راوی کے کنارے ایک چھوٹے سے قصبے کرتار پور میں واقع ہے اور یہ دنیا بھر میں 30 ملین سکھوں کے لیے مقدس ترین مقامات میں سے ایک ہے۔ مرکزی مزار کی عمارت 1925 میں 10 کروڑ روپے کی لاگت سے تعمیر کی گئی۔ 1,35,600، پٹیالہ کے مہاراجہ سردار بھوپندر سنگھ نے عطیہ کیا۔ اس کی مرمت حکومت پاکستان نے 1995 میں کی تھی، اور 2004 میں ایک اہم قیمت پر اسے مکمل طور پر بحال کیا گیا تھا۔ مئی 2017 میں، امریکہ میں قائم این جی او "ایکو سکھ" نے مزار کے ارد گرد 100 ایکڑ پر مشتمل "مقدس جنگل" کے قیام کی تجویز پیش کی۔ 42 ایکڑ (17 ہیکٹر) کے رقبے پر پھیلے ایک نئے صحن، میوزیم، لائبریری، ہاسٹلریز اور لاکر رومز کی تعمیر کے ساتھ نومبر 2018 میں گردوارہ کو مزید توسیع دی گئی۔ یہاں ایک 20 فٹ کا کنواں ہے، جو چھوٹی سرخ اینٹوں سے بنا ہے جو 500 سال پرانا ہے اور خیال کیا جاتا ہے کہ گرو نانک دیو کی زندگی کے دوران بنایا گیا تھا۔
کوئی بھی اس جگہ کا دورہ کر سکتا ہے بشرطیکہ وہ ضابطہ اخلاق کا احترام کرے اور اس پر عمل کرے۔مذہبی تہوار - بیساکھی میلہ، ویساکھی اور خالصہ کی یاد۔ کھانا اجتماعی باورچی خانے میں تیار کیا جاتا ہے اور لنگر ہال میں پیش کیا جاتا ہے، جسے یاتری خود بناتے ہیں
